The SHE WINS Rapid Response Fund (RRF) is a global funding mechanism administered by Search, with new funds now being allocated starting October 2024. It is designed to respond to women-led organizations who need rapid support to advance peace in changing contexts. The objective is to provide simple-to-access funds directly to a diverse range of women-led initiatives to respond to emerging crises or participate directly in peace processes in order to seize new openings for the advancement of Women, Peace and Security outcomes in fragile and conflict affected contexts.

The funding window is currently open for local women-led groups in the following countries:

Organizations may apply for one of three different grant streams:

  • Small grants ($500 to $24,999; 3 months or less): Support for specific and time-bound WPS activities, which may include: travel for key activities, one-off convenings, and material goods and services, including consultancies. Under this stream, funds will not be issued directly to the applicant. Rather, Search for Common Ground will procure the goods and services and then provide these as in-kind assistance to the (formal or informal) women’s groups.
  • Medium grants ($25,000 to $99,999; from 3 to 9 months): Grants for quick-impact initiatives by registered local groups, which may include: emerging opportunities to advance WPS or projects in closing spaces to protect women’s rights and safety. 
  • Large grants ($100,000 to $250,000; from 9 to 12 months): Grants for longer-term efforts by larger formal organizations. We envision only a small number of awards under this stream.”

Guatemala | Plataforma de Mujeres Indígenas

Strengthening the advocacy of indigenous women: Plataforma de Mujeres Indígenas (PMI) is leading an initiative to enhance the political participation and leadership of Indigenous women in Guatemala’s electoral process, during and after the crucial 2023 elections. This initiative has already resulted in key evidence-based proposals for greater inclusion of Indigenous people. Through these efforts, PMI is fostering a more equitable and inclusive political landscape, empowering Indigenous women to take on fundamental roles in civic and political leadership.

Mozambique | Access Mulher

Fostering Security, Inclusion and Resilience for Women: Access Mulher is leading an initiative to enhance the safety and rights of women in the conflict-affected Cabo Delgado region, where there are ongoing security concerns. The project will empower women to actively engage in peacebuilding and community decision-making, focusing on trauma-informed care, leadership training, and self-employment opportunities. Collaborative workshops will strengthen ties between local women, authorities, and healthcare providers, at the same time, community awareness campaigns will underscore women’s essential contributions to peace and security, while carefully considering the cultural and social dynamics that limit their participation. The initiative adopts a context-sensitive approach that deconstructs these barriers and stereotypes, promoting strategies to foster greater inclusion”.

Mexico | PSYDEH A.C.

Nosotras Decidimos: PSYDEH A.C. is leading an initiative to enhance the political influence and leadership of rural and Indigenous women in the Otomí-Tepehua-Nahua region of Hidalgo, following the 2024 elections. The project will equip women with the tools needed to navigate the post-election landscape, focusing on leadership, advocacy, and collaboration. This initiative aims to foster partnerships between women leaders and newly elected officials, ensuring their voices are integral to local governance to address systemic inequalities and gender-based violence.

Democratic Republic of the Congo | Collectif des Associations Féminines (CAF)

Strengthening women’s leadership in conflict resolution and security governance: Collectif des Associations Féminines (CAF) has established a Network of Women Mediators and Peace Ambassadors in Greater North Kivu to elevate women’s roles in peacebuilding, as the conflict intensifies in the region. Through targeted training, women are equipped to lead community dialogues and conflict mediation, while radio programs promote local engagement in peace initiatives. This effort seeks to foster collaboration among women, local authorities, and communities, driving meaningful change in a challenging security environment.

Benin | Actions des Volontaires pour un Épanouissement Commun (AVECo)

Prevention | $41,973.35 | 5 months | 2024-2025

Rapid intervention against the recruitment of women into violent extremist groups: AVECo is leading an initiative to prevent the recruitment of girls and women into extremist groups through education and economic empowerment. Key activities in Cobly and Matéri include establishing peace clubs to foster self-esteem and agency among young girls, offering entrepreneurial training for women, and creating community learning centers. The project aims to reach over 5,000 individuals, strengthening solidarity and enhancing financial stability within local communities.

Libya | Nana Maren Association

Participation | $60,600 | 7 months | 2024-2025

Empowering women for peace and security: Nana Maren Association is leading an initiative to empower women in the conflict affected-cities of Tripoli, Zawiya, Raheibat, and Ajaylat. By providing targeted training in conflict analysis, peacebuilding, reconciliation, and political participation, the project addresses the urgent need for women-led efforts to foster lasting peace in Western Libya. By the end of the initiative, Libyan women will be equipped to mediate disputes, lead community dialogues, and advocate for greater political participation, driving long-term stability and inclusion.

Ethiopia | Women Empowerment-Action

Prevention | $126,686.88 | 12 months | 2024-2025

Pathways to Peace – Enhancing women’s capacity and participation in building sustainable peace and security: WE-Action is leading a project to promote reconciliation among Amhara and Tigray communities through dialogues and peace monitoring platforms that unite local leaders and institutions. By providing women with comprehensive training programs they will become peace monitors and promoters, focusing on gender, conflict analysis and conflict resolution.

Armenia | Change Armenia

Addressing Mental Health Needs for Forcibly Displaced Women and Girls from Nagorno-Karabakh: Change Armenia is leading an initiative to raise awareness of mental health challenges, ensuring these issues are properly identified and addressed within displaced communities. The project will equip social workers to provide targeted psychosocial support and promote mental health-sensitive social interventions. By integrating mental health into broader community efforts, the initiative aims to provide comprehensive care and support for forcibly displaced women and girls.

South Sudan | National Women Empowerment and Rehabilitation Organization (NWERO)

Addressing violence against women, girls, and children: The National Women Empowerment and Rehabilitation Organization (NWERO) is leading an initiative to combat violence against women and children in Eastern Equatoria. The project aims to elevate women’s voices in decision-making and policy developments through training, mentorship, and community engagement. By empowering women, NWERO is paving the way for stronger local peace efforts and a more stable future for the region.

Kyrgyzstan | Dialogue, Trust, Right Association

Women for Peace: The Dialogue, Trust, Right Association empowered women in Batken Province to lead peacebuilding and economic recovery efforts in urgent response to the Kyrgyz-Tajik conflict. Through financial aid, leadership training, and ongoing mentorship, women were equipped to launch businesses and drive local peace initiatives. The project positively impacted thousands of community members, providing crucial psychological support and fostering resilience, especially among women.

Kyrgyzstan | Search, DIA and Steps to Success

Prevention | $250,000 | 9 months | 2023-2024 – Completed

Women Community “Sheroes”: Advancing Women Leadership in Return and Reintegration (R&R): Search-Kyrgyzstan, in partnership with DIA and Steps to Success, empowered local women leaders to manage gender-sensitive return and reintegration processes for women and children returning to Kyrgyzstan from post-ISIS detention camps in the Middle East. The project focused on building expertise in trauma-informed care, fostering collaboration between communities and local authorities, and supporting grassroots efforts through small grants. This innovative approach has established a sustainable model for advancing women’s leadership in post-conflict recovery across the region.

Democratic Republic of the Congo | Génération Épanouie 

Prevention | $29,103 | 8 months | 2024 – Completed

Raising awareness among young people and women about peacebuilding and the promotion of women’s leadership: Génération Epanouie empowered women and youth in North Kivu amidst the ongoing conflict. Through capacity-building sessions and dialogue platforms, the project engaged 802 participants, opening a space for dialogue and inspiration, encouraging young women to become active leaders in their communities as the conflict in North Kivu intensified.
