The project Kallo Lenio, Klla Founna: Ensemble Avançons vers l’Avenir was implemented in Niger from February 2018 to June 2020, with support from the European Union.
This 28-month project, implemented by Search Niger in nine communes of the Diffa region, sought to contribute to the peaceful reintegration of former repentant and detainees, including by fostering positive engagement from community members.
The final evaluation highlighted that 84% of the former detainees or repentant surveyed declared feeling integrated in their host community, 90% foresee they can have a viable future in the community, and 82% are ready to engage in a process to go back to a normal life. Within host communities, 92% of host community members reported considering former detainees and repentant as partners in the development of their community, 79% believe that rehabilitation activities conducted by former detainees and repentant have strengthened community cohesion, and 75% report positive cohabitation. The evaluation shows an increase in the proportion of former detainees or repentant surveyed who reject Boko Haram ideals and violence by 11 points, to reach 96% by the end of the action. At the same time, 73% of them are ready to engage in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of their communities, and 68% actually participated in collaborative projects in their community. Finally, 56% of the former detainees or repentant reported having gained socio-professional knowledge from the action, and 71% of the beneficiaries of IGA said they were generating resources to cover their daily needs.
