Young people are often at the front lines of responding to violence and conflict. However, they also often struggle to access appropriate support and funding. Youth 360 changes this by providing youth groups with holistic, 360°, support in a process where young people themselves are in charge.

Youth 360 is a facilitated process consisting of three steps (1) Collaborative conflict analysis; (2) Project design and participatory grantmaking, and (3) Youth-led project implementation.

Youth 360 centers youth in program design, supporting young leaders tailor projects to local realities and distribute funding. Capacity development is embedded throughout the program, with mentorship and workshops on topics including designing for conflict transformation, understanding and communicating impact, safety and security, and financial management.

Search for Common Ground and our partners are currently piloting several Youth 360 programs. In 2020, our Youth 360 programming reached over 500 youth groups around the world. We are currently expanding and scaling these programs to reach even more young people.

Foniké: Social Entrepreneurs for Peace (Guinea)

Foniké is a program providing Youth 360 support to 320 youth groups across Guinea pursuing peacebuilding. The project is funded by the UN Peacebuilding Fund and implemented in partnership with Osez innover, Association des Blogueurs de Guinee, the Mano River Union Youth Parliament, and the Club des jeunes filles leaders de Guinée

Young Women as Drivers of Peace (Sri Lanka)

Young Women as Drivers of Peace is a program supporting 140 young women peacebuilders across Sri Lanka through the Youth 360 approach. The project is funded by the Uthe Women’s Resource Center, Muslim Women’s Development Trust, Sarvodaya Shanthi Sena, and the Muslim Women’s Research and Action Forum.

Youth Solidarity Fund

Search has partnered with the UN Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) to provide Youth 360 capacity development and networking support to applicants and recipients of UNAOC’s Youth Solidarity Fund, helping them achieve even greater impact with their local projects.

Asian Youth4Peace

Asian Youth4Peace was an online program run by our partners at UNOY Peacebuilders with the support of the UNFPA and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency. The program targeted youth groups across Asia to provide comprehensive Youth 360 support.

Youth 360 is based on a set of four principles, transforming traditional relationships between youth and the international peacebuilding community:

  1. Placing power in the hands of youth, including the power to define key problems, determine metrics of success, and direct resource allocation.
  2. Working with the excluded majority of youth often overlooked by the international community, including young people organised through small and informal youth groups.
  3. Re-thinking what sustainability means, emphasising sustainable impact rather than focusing on sustaining NGOs.
  4. Enhancing young people’s collective impact on conflict systems, by supporting young people’s collaborative leadership across divides.

In order to ensure that we live up to these principles, the Youth 360 approach is:

  • Peer-to-peer – Youth are in the driving seat in Youth 360. They share and learn from each other as much as they do from mentors and experts.
  • Inclusive – Youth 360 proactively removes obstacles which otherwise would exclude certain groups from participating. Considerations include conflict sensitivity, digital access, and language divides.
  • Active – Learning is based on the active contribution of all participants, enhancing sharing and supported by a safe and trusted space.
  • Flexible – Youth 360 supports flexible content, methods, and timings, yielding an inclusive and participant-centred program.

Engaging new youth partners around the world is essential to the success and dynamism of Youth 360. We are seeking sustainable partnership and funding to sustain our approach of putting peace programming directly in the hands of youth. If you or your organization is interested in becoming involved with Youth 360, or becoming a local, regional or global partner, please contact:
