The UN Inter-Agency Network on Youth Development’s (IANYD) Subgroup on Youth Participation in Peacebuilding, co-chaired by the United Nations Peacebuilding Support Office (PBSO) and Search for Common Ground, has developed the Guiding Principles on Young People’s Participation in Peacebuilding. This working group consists of members representing a number of UN entities, non-governmental organizations, academics and youth-led organizations.
About the Guiding Principles: The principles aim at offering overarching guidance on meaningful youth engagement and participation, especially in conflict or transition settings. These Guiding Principles offer guidance to key stakeholders, including Governments, UN entities, donors, national and international non-governmental organizations and civil society actors. Operational Guidance on how to apply the principles will be developed in the coming months.
Operational Guidance: These above mentioned principles, conceived to be overarching and applicable to a wide range of actors (the “why” and the “what”), now needs to be accompanied by operational guidance (“how to”) based on evidence and practice from the field. The development of this operational guidance began on June 4th and 5th, 2014.
