FEBRUARY 24, 2022 – As images of war emerge from Ukraine, we feel shock and heartbreak. Our hearts go to Ukrainian citizens in this moment of extraordinary duress: those who shelter in place, those who are fleeing in search of safety. Civilians will bear the brunt of this violence, and every party’s priority should be to ensure that no more are harmed.

Despite the events of the last 12 hours, we hold onto the hope that it is not too late to seek a nonviolent solution to this crisis. The security concerns of Russia, Ukraine, and all other parties must be addressed at the negotiating table, in order to prevent the very real prospect of further escalation.

The urgent action is to stop the violence and start talking.
