Tanzania & Mozambique

Since 2010 in Tanzania and since 2023 in Mozambique, we’ve partnered with civil society organisations, and members of the government to prevent violent extremism and foster good governance in both countries, as well as partnering with local journalists and encouraging objectivity in the media in Tanzania.

Tanzania & Mozambique

We prevent violent extremism and encourage good governance in Mozambique and Tanzania. We examine violent extremism in northern Mozambique from a regional perspective and believe that it requires coordinated regional efforts and approaches. We aim at strengthening relations between community and security actors, promote open interfaith dialogue, reduce violence against women, and encourage peaceful collaboration.

Kwa Pamoja Tudumishe Amani II

The Kwa Pamoja Tudumishe Amani II project in the Mtwara Region aims to strengthen collaboration between youth, community leaders, and security actors. The initiative engages youth, women, local government, Bodaboda (taxi moto) groups, and civil society organizations. Search has found that, when supported to engage directly with police and other community members, these groups can become effective agents of change, leading peace and security initiatives within their communities.

Daraja la Amani | Pontes de Paz

Search for Common Ground, in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), is leading a three-year peacebuilding program, Daraja la Amani | Pontes de Paz, launched in April 2023. The program is being implemented in the border regions of southern Tanzania and northern Mozambique. Its primary aim is to foster peace and stability while strengthening community resilience against the influence of violent extremist organizations operating in this cross-border region. The overarching objective is to strengthen formal and informal mechanisms that build resilience in an inclusive way, and to support sustainable, community-driven solutions that address the root causes of instability, conflict, violent extremism, radicalization, and recruitment.
