January 12, 2021

This baseline study was carried out as part of the “Improving Collaboration between Security Forces and Communities in the Liptako Gourma Region“ project, which is implemented by Search in Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger, in partnership with the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP), and with support from the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This project supports security forces in their protection mandate and communities in participating in stabilization efforts in conflict affected areas and military operations in 16 border communes of the region.

The baseline study focused on unpacking community perceptions on the improvement of the level of collaboration between security forces and community members, understanding the level of exchanges between the two groups, and what opportunities for cross-border collaboration exist. The study also assessed the contribution to peace and security of security forces and communities, and what channels of communication exist on issues related to peace, security, and stabilisation.
