BRUSSELS, BELGIUM, 1 March, 2019 – Last year, Search for Common Ground launched an ambitious strategy and made a ten-year commitment to building healthy, just, and safe societies and to continuing our mission as a dynamic and diverse global peacebuilding organisation.
Today, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Charline Burton as Executive Director of Search for Common Ground Brussels after an extensive and comprehensive recruitment process.
Charline will lead the development and roll-out of our strategy in Europe and our European partnerships, with a particular focus on women- and youth-led peacebuilding, strategic support to peace and stabilisation efforts, and supporting innovation in a changing world.
In our recruitment process, we sought a leader whose dynamism, energy, and vision would help us translate our ten-year strategy into change in a world struggling to cope with the effects of crisis. Through her work leading conflict-sensitive humanitarian programmes in the Democratic Republic of Congo and her efforts to support the consolidation of peace and democracy across the Sahel and West Africa, Charline has worked with local colleagues to develop creative solutions to seemingly intractable problems.
Charline came to peacebuilding eight years ago from a career in the public sector and media, first as a French-language journalist in Africa and Europe, and later with the United Nations and Belgian Technical Cooperation. Having worked across sectors and continents, I have no doubt that she will be an ideal leader for the growing team of peacebuilders at our Brussels Headquarters and connecting to colleagues throughout the world.
With gratitude for our partnership in peacebuilding,
Sandra Djuvara Melone
Chairwoman of the Board of Directors
