Afghanistan in Crisis: Earthquakes Shatter Lives

In just one week, two devastating earthquakes have struck eastern Afghanistan. Homes have collapsed. Families are digging through the rubble with their bare hands. Nearly 2000 people are confirmed dead—and the toll is still climbing. Mothers, children, entire families are gone.

Our Country Director, Zuhra, shared what she is seeing:

“Six pregnant women died in one night after being hurt in the first earthquake. Families have lost everything. Even small help would go a long way.”

These words are not statistics, they are human lives cut short. And for survivors, every moment now is a fight: for warmth, for safety, for medical care.

How your support will help right now

With your support, we can act quickly to deliver life-saving relief:

  • $150 provides warmth and dignity: Family bedding, clothing and reusable sanitary packs purchased from women-run businesses, giving survivors comfort and supporting local livelihoods.
  • $200 provides life-saving care: Urgent maternal health services for women and newborns, where even a small amount of funding saves lives.
  • $500 provides trauma care support: Everyone in the community is in shock at the devastation that is surrounding them, this support helps them grieve and respond in a safer way

Afghan families cannot wait. Because mothers are giving birth in the cold. Because children are sleeping on the ground with nothing but fear to keep them awake.
