Michele Akpo

Regional Director, Central and Southern Africa

Michele Akpo, joined Search in April 2016 as the Regional Director for Central and Southern Africa. She brings to Search more than 20 years of experience in international development.

Michele was born and raised in Benin where she started her career in international development with the USAID Mission in Benin. Prior to joining Search, Michele served as Chief of Party for the USAID-funded Women Empowered for Leadership and Development (WELD) Project with World Vision International in Sierra Leone. Michele also served as Senior Program Manager for Education and Child Protection at Plan International USA, where she provided leadership in project design, technical assistance, and management. She served as Program Director for the Ambassadors’ Girls’ Scholarship Program (AGSP) funded through the USAID/Africa Education Initiative at AED (now FHI 360), a multi-country flagship program for the US Government. Under her leadership, thousands of girls and boys received support to access education and succeed in school. AGSP was evaluated as a program with generational impact in Sub-Saharan Africa. Michele is passionate about results-oriented project management and resource mobilization.
