John L. Esposito is University Professor, Professor of Religion and International Affairs and of Islamic Studies and Founding Director of the Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim­Christian Understanding at Georgetown University. His more than forty­five books include: The Future of Islam, What Everyone Needs to Know about Islam, Islamophobia and the Challenge of Pluralism in the 21st Century, Who Speaks for Islam? What a Billion Muslims Really Think (with Dalia Mogahed), Unholy War: Terror in the Name of Islam, Islam and Democracy (with J. Voll). Editor­in-Chief of Oxford Islamic Studies Online and The Oxford Encyclopedia of the Modern Islamic World, his writings have been translated into more than 35 languages.

A former President of the American Academy of Religion, the Middle East Studies Association and of the American Council for the Study of Islamic Societies, and member of the World Economic Forum’s Council of 100 Leaders. Esposito has served as a consultant to the U.S. government and governments, corporations, universities, and the media worldwide.
