Women’s Participation in the Media

We believe that women’s leadership in peacebuilding and in the media sector is essential to a more peaceful and stable Central African Republic (CAR). We work to increase women’s participation in the Great Lakes Region and CAR in particular through our project “Media: Voices for All.” This project encourages the involvement of women in journalism through leadership training, personal coaching, and mentoring of emerging female leaders as positive role models in radio and television programs.

Working alongside the Association des Femmes Professionnelles de la Communication (AFPC), we are using a combination of trainings, hands on experience, strengthening of technical capacity, innovation grants, and regional experience-sharing. In addition to supporting women’s inclusion in the media, “Voices for All” provides the local population with better access to high quality, gender-sensitive media programming, particularly on issues directly affecting women arising from the current crisis. Gender-sensitive radio programs on issues such as rural women’s rights and the role of women during this time of conflict have been broadcasted on two radio stations in Bangui.
