L’Équipe (The Team) is a dramatic television series about the relationship between two young Ivoirians who have nothing in common except their passion for football.
The series follows the adventures of Hervé (Sylla Ismaël), a sensitive young man whose lawyer father doesn’t approve of his involvement with the team, and Napoka (Zibou Bilé Junior), a poor kid from the destitute Abobo quartier who dreams of going pro.
As they struggle to overcome the misunderstandings that arise from their very different backgrounds, they and their teammates learn to find common ground and work together for the good of the team.
With colorful dialogue and fast-moving action, the series skillfully weaves sport and entertainment with the principles of conflict resolution. Well-told, culturally relevant stories depict characters who search for peaceful alternatives to violence.
The first season of 16 episodes premiered on RTI in July 2009. A second season followed in 2010. Both seasons were broadcast across sub-Saharan Africa on CFI.
Following a contested presidential election in the fall of 2010, Côte d’Ivoire fell into civil conflict that lasted until April 2011.
In 2012, and as a response to the conflict and uneasy truce, SFCG and JNB productions gathered the cast and crew together to create season 3 of L’Équipe. The series, which is a powerful look at the impact of war on the most vulnerable populations, started broadcast on RTI in April 2013.
