New Research Sheds Light on Conflict Dynamics in South Sudan

Our new policy brief, Building a Constituency for Peace in South Sudan, offers unique insight on the dynamics of interethnic conflict in South Sudan and strategic recommendations on how to support long-term stability in the country.

Despite an ongoing Civil War which killed as many as 300,000 people and displaced 12 times more, we have continued working in South Sudan during the crisis.

We have conducted surveys, focus groups, and evaluations to better understand how South Sudanese citizens experience violence, as well as the opportunities to influence conflict dynamics and bridge divides. Along with external partners, our local team collected three years of data measuring these perceptions.

The key findings of this research, coupled with learning from our unprecedented peacebuilding programming, provide a new perspective on ethnic identity and peacebuilding in South Sudan. The recommendations to the government of South Sudan, civil society actors, and the international community to achieve durable peace are rooted in evidence collected thanks to our unique access to local communities.
