Working in collaboration with National Youth Council (CNJTL), we have begun our second round of Civic Leadership Training (CLT) in 2014. The Second Regional Youth CLT was conducted in the district of Covalima on September 25-27 and featured 25 youth (18 Female and 7 Male), between the ages of 17-24. The participating youth came from the districts of Covalima, Manufahi, Ainaro, and Bobonaro.
During the three-day training, the participating youth were encouraged to explore various aspects of leadership and team building. The purpose was to help youth discover their untapped potential for leadership and to use their skills to play a more meaningful role in their communities. The training will ensure that the participants will take the understanding, knowledge, and skills gained in the workshop into real life contexts. To accomplish this goal, we use an experiential learning approach and methodology that allows participants to gain hands on experience in real life situations. This approach helps trainees to retain the new knowledge and skills learned during the training. These activities also expand participants’ comfort zone by forcing them to work with others to successfully navigate experiential team challenges. Topics covered included, but were not limited to, leadership, teamwork, effective communication, time management, conflict transformation, and risk assessment.
“I now know how to solve problems within the family when we have fights over animals going into people’s gardens and farms. I never thought that this skill is a mediation tool”
