This report was produced by Search’s “Protect to Prevent” project funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor in December 2020. It analyzes the content of traditional media and social networks on religious freedom and violent extremism in Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. At the same time, the study seeks to examine hate speech against certain religious groups and how pre-labeling affects those officially accused of extremism.
