Committed to Peacebuilding

Founded in 1982, Search for Common Ground (SFCG) is an international organization dedicated to transforming the way the world deals with conflict - away from adversarial approaches and towards cooperative solutions. With just under 500 local staff working out of 36 offices in 24 countries around the world in relentless pursuit of this vision, SFCG has a proven record of success in bringing entrepreneurial skills and approaches to entrenched conflicts throughout Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the United States. SFCG's essential work is to create safe and sustainable ways for adversaries to find effective, innovative solutions to their conflicts, based on their mutual interests. SFCG provides a voice for all stakeholders in the culture, with particular emphases on youth, women and minorities.

SFCG's programs are firmly rooted in the societies they serve. SFCG strengthens local leaders, organizations, and entire societies in weaving social cohesion, convinced that peace is most sustainable when it is owned by local residents. At the same time, the resources SFCG offers – including lessons learned elsewhere – can catalyze and reinforce the local peacebuilding process.

SFCG has an innovative toolbox that supports collaborative approaches to addressing conflicts and preventing violence. These include well-known conflict resolution techniques, such as mediation and facilitation, and less traditional ones, like television productions, radio soap opera, and community organizing. SFCG's solutions-oriented programs support effective dialogue between people and their governments, and among the people themselves, on issues causing conflict. These programs reduce tensions, counter negative stereotyping, give voice to moderates, and promote peace.
