Jakarta editor of the Common Ground News Service - Partners in Humanity
Job Description
Prepare and manage the weekly Jakarta edition of the Common Ground News Service - Partners in Humanity (CGNews-PiH)
Job Responsibilities
- Develop, prepare and distribute electronically the Jakarta edition of
CGNews-PiH;
- Supervise the development of the Jakarta section of the CGNews website, update the website, and follow up with technical issues and subscribers'/readers'/editors' messages and requests;
- Represent CGNews-PiH in South Asia and develop a strong relationship with the media in South Asia;
- Supervise the translation process and assure its quality;
- Build a list of subscribers to the Jakarta edition of CGNews-PiH, and develop a plan to assure its constant growth;
- Place CGNews articles/features in the major media outlets of South Asia;
- Select and commission op-eds, features, and series for CGNews-PiH;
- Report to the CGNews Executive Editor and interact constructively with the CGNews team.
Qualifications
- University degree in Journalism/Media, Conflict Resolution, Political Science, or Social Studies;
- Two or more years of related work experience in media, especially with a newspaper or a news agency;
- Editing and rewriting skills, especially in Bahasa Indonesia;
- Background (or strong interest) in issues pertaining to relations between the West and Muslim world;
- Good knowledge of the media in Indonesia and neighboring countries;
- Good communication skills;
- Ability to deal effectively with deadlines and to work under pressure;
- Fluent Bahasa Indonesia (the working language), and a good command of English, both verbal and written. Arabic is desirable but not essential.
