Internship: Communications
Search for Common Ground's (SFCG) mission is to transform how individuals, organizations and governments deal with conflict - away from adversarial approaches and toward cooperative solutions. We design and implement multifaceted programs that aim to resolve conflict and prevent violence. We operate from the premise that people need to understand the differences and act on the commonalties.
Responsibilities
The Intern for the Communications Department assists in the design and implementation of present and future projects, including the Common Ground Awards and Common Ground Film Festival.
- Assisting the Director of Communications:
- Draft and distribute stories and press releases to identified media outlets
- Draft/edit outreach materials
- Maintain database of media contacts
- Maintain updated articles and information regarding SFCG
- Administrative duties: filing, phone calls/faxes, copying, mail
- Assist with the 2009 Common Ground Awards
- Researching potential award recipients
- Liaising with venues for the awards
- Assisting with the planning and organization of the awards
- Organizing and maintaining files for awardees
- Assist in the preparation of the 2009 Common Ground Film Festival:
- Researching possible films for the festival
- Order films to preview for inclusion and keep organized record of their status
Desirable skills and experience
- Knowledge of and interest in communications
- Knowledge of and interest in documentary films
- Commitment to conflict resolution
- Independent worker not needing close supervision
- Excellent writing skills
- Self-starter; organized; detail-oriented
- Good Internet research skills
- Database experience
