Internship: Children and Youth Department

The Children and Youth Division is seeking part-time candidates for an unpaid internship. The Division provides technical assistance to all programs across the organization by connecting existing children and youth projects to one another, providing information and resources on the most recent developments in the technical field, supporting the development and implementation of new projects, and creating projects across program offices.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the Children and Youth Intern will include:

  • To support the Washington Network on Children and Armed Conflict for professionals and interested persons in Washington, DC. This will include creating a work plan, identifying potential topics and participants, defining objectives, managing information flow, and organizing meetings;
  • To organize existing and available information on children and youth in armed conflict for professionals and SFCG field staff in ways that can be most useful to them. This will include development of a quarterly newsletter on recent trends in work with children and youth, information packets on themes that are relevant to field and headquarters staff and information for the development of a website on youth in armed conflict. This will be done in partnership with the Institutional Learning and Research Department. 
  • To support the development of the Alliance for War Affected Youth project by participating in program design, supporting the creation of a website, and networking;
  • To do research on fundraising opportunities for international and domestic youth projects; and
  • To write and proofread documents.

In addition, the Intern will be asked to provide some general administrative support to the program staff as needed.

Internship Parameters

The degree of responsibility and challenge available in an internship is directly related to the amount of time spent in the position.  The following are the minimums required:

  • Three month commitment
  • 18 hours per week

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following qualities:

  • A demonstrated interest in the issues of children and youth in conflict resolution
  • Good writing and communication skills
  • A self-starting, enthusiastic attitude
  • Knowledge in French a plus
