Internship: Individual Giving
Search for Common Ground (SFCG) is a DC-based non-profit organization dedicated to transforming conflict into cooperative action. Search for Common Ground's mission is to transform how people deal with conflict - away from adversarial approaches and toward cooperative solutions. We design and implement multifaceted programs that aim to resolve conflict and prevent violence. We seek to help conflicting parties to understand their differences and act on their commonalities.
The Individual Giving Program is responsible for developing and cultivating relationships with individuals who “invest” in the work of Search for Common Ground. The team creates and implements strategies that educate individuals about the impact of conflict in the world and the “Common Ground Approach” to transforming conflict. When successful, individuals not only financially support our work; they also apply the Common Ground Approach in their own lives.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist in the design and production of a quarterly newsletter for investors.
- Create HTML e-mail announcements
- Assist in planning and holding of fundraising events.
- General administrative tasks – mailing, copying, database input….
- Fundraising-related research.
- Assisting with website maintenance.
- Other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will exhibit:
- A self-starting, enthusiastic and flexible approach to the organization.
- Excellent writing, editing and communications skills.
- Interest and knowledge in conflict transformation.
- Well organized; detail-oriented.
- Must have basic computer skills – Microsoft Word, Excel, HTML and PowerPoint.
- Graphic design a plus

In your cover letter, please clearly state why SFCG is of interest to you, what you can bring to the organization and what you hope to gain from the internship. Also, please include the dates of your availability and the number of hours per week to which you can commit. We prefer commitments of no less than 24 hours per week. Please note that this is an unpaid internship position, including no transportation costs. Credit can be arranged for students with their institution.
