Stand by Me is a musical collaboration between more than 40 musicians worldwide, performing an exquisite rendition of the famous Ben E. King song. Each musician performs in his own musical style and cultural tradition, giving the piece a uniquely multi-cultural flair. The Stand by Me music video has become an Internet sensation with over 20 million views. Stand by Me was produced by Playing for Change, a multi-media movement started in 2001 by Mark Johnson and Whitney Burditt. Their mission is to inspire and connect -bringing peace to the world through music.
PfC believes that music has the power to break down barriers and close distances between people. Music is the universal language; it transcends geographic, political, economic, spiritual and ideological differences, and unites us as one human race. PfC brings together musicians from all over the world to perform benefit concerts that fund the construction of music and art schools in communities in need.
The Playing for Change Foundation has built a music school in South Africa, the first school of its kind in the area. They are planning to build new music schools in Nepal, Mali and Ghana, and are developing programs at existing schools and communities in the United States.
