Biography of Moussia Haulot
Moussia Haulot is the President of the initiative
‘Tambours pour la paix’ or ‘Drums for Peace’.
Her passion for art and music inspired her to set up
the initiative in 2000 in conjunction with ‘World Children’s Poetry Day’ and its
mission is to invite French-speaking Belgian children under the age of thirteen
to pursue the struggle against violence through the writing of poetry. Children
are the ones who suffer the most during armed conflict, often getting caught up
in the fight and even forced to become child soldiers
Moussia Haulot wanted to awaken children around the
world to the plight of other children. They are asked to find words in
newspapers, on the radio and on the television that invoke violence and words
that build peace. With those words they must write a poem expressing their
dreams and desires for the future of the world. Teachers are asked to encourage
their children to participate in the competition which culminates once a year
in a huge gathering across Europe and the world, where children can beat the
‘drums for peace’ in unison and make their cry to the world heard.
‘Drums for Peace’ collaborates with countless organizations including
the United Nations, UNICEF, UNESCO, Amnesty International.
It will not suffice to cry
But your cry must also be heard
And dominate all the other noises of the world.
Your cry should reach the hearts and consciences,
trigger actions and break barriers.
This cry, we already uttered it and repeat again.
From early childhood, all humans must mobilize
with enthusiasm, energy and strong determination,
to put Man’s forces at the services of a future based on brotherhood,
capable of the boldest undertakings and the greatest adventures.
This is why, this year again, we call on parents, teachers and adults to lead
children towards Fraternity by eating with all their hearts
LES TAMBOURS POUR LA PAIX. (Drums for Peace)
