Youth Engagement to Promote Stability This 3-year project, funded by USAID, aims to transform the way in which youth engage with government and community leaders to promote peace and reconciliation and prevent election-related violence. Overall, it seeks to bridge the gap between Timorese youth and social and political structures at the local and national level and contribute to conflict prevention through the innovative use of media. The project is an extension the previously implemented Youth Radio for Peace Building Project (YR4PB) project.
The program’s activities will build off the successes and lessons learned from past work, and incorporate new and complementary activities to reach the aforementioned objectives. More specifically, the project will be implemented using two interwoven activity streams: Civic Education and LeadershipTraining and Media Programming.

Women Empowerment & Access to Justice Project
Search For Common Ground (SFCG) works to empower women and provide improved access to the justice system. This includes implementing a media campaign for marginalised groups with objectives:
-
To increase public awareness of basic rights to seek legal remedies to legitimate grievances; that is, to increase public knowledge and change public perceptions and attitudes regarding the workings of the Timorese judicial system;
To support the creation of referral pathways for Timorese women to access legal advice; and
To enhance the capacity and sustainability of Timorese civil society organizations to play a more active role in peacebuilding processes.
This 2-year project, funded by the Norwegian Embassy in Jakarta, seeks to promote legal awareness and responsiveness for marginalised groups, principally young women, and strengthen the capacity of civil society organisations (CSOs) and the media in Timor-Leste. The main activities planned for this project included:
Training in Justice and Conflict Transformation Skill Sets: SFCG will develop a training curriculum and deliver training for the legal aid organisation in key justice and conflict transformation competencies, including facilitation, negotiation, and mediation.

Production of Radio Oral “Herstory” Series “Hatoo Historia Justisa” : SFCG and partner Timor Leste Media Development Centre (TLMDC) are producing a 15-episode radio oral “herstory” series (30-minutes each), which will cover a wide range of access to justice issues facing marginalised groups in Timor-Leste. The series will focus on priority thematic areas including: land rights, labour rights, combating violence against women and children, abortion, juvenile justice, and property and inheritance rights. SFCG will also work with community radio partners to develop interactive talk shows, which will create a public platform to facilitate outreach and advocacy efforts, boost efforts to increase public knowledge of the justice sector, and change attitudes and behaviour.
