Active Projects

1. Alternative Dispute Resolution-ADR Programme
Morocco is undergoing a fast-paced reform process leading toward a stronger system of transparency, good governance and rule of law. The government's reform agenda includes various sectors and organs of the state. Particular attention is being paid to the Judicial Branch of government as one independent and empowered arm for Justice. The reforms include the need for faster and more efficient legal proceedings and a resilient court system equipped and able to handle the increasing number of civil cases each year. [more]

2. Improve intra-community relationships through capacity building
Within the framework of a partnership between the British embassy in Rabat and Search for Common Ground - Morocco, a number of training seminars are to be carried out on the techniques of conflict resolution, mediation and project management, to the benefit of a total of 150 associative leaders representing 75 Moroccan associations who work in the field of social development of the young populations in the underprivileged districts of Fès, Oujda, El Hoceïma, Kenitra, Errisani and Marrakech. Completed Projects

1. Building a collaborative community in Douar Chanti shantytown
Search for Common Ground- Morocco, with the support of USAID and in partnership with the Holding d'Aménagement Al Omrane (The National Shelter Upgrading Agency) implemented a project aimed at introducing and institutionalizing participatory and collaborative approaches to development in one impoverished urban community in Morocco and aimed to create a model of collaboration between national and local development institutions. 2. Engaging with women in Douar Chanti shantytown
This project sought to further transform the culture within the Douar Chanti of Sidi Yahia Al-Gharb from one of victimization and loss of hope into one of confidence and responsible citizenship. The four-month program helped the community residents of the Douar Chanti to design and implement a sustainable development project, focused on women, by using the skills that Search for Common Ground previously developed with them, the facilities it assisted in establishing, and the coalitions it secured in the environment of Sidi Yahia Al-Gharb. 3. Common Ground Media
Over the past three years the influence of Moroccan print and audiovisual media has grown exponentially and publications proliferated at a dizzying speed. With relaxed censorship laws and greater freedoms of expression, print journalism has managed to become an important player with regard to influencing its readership -- though literacy rates remain relatively low. Meanwhile, with the advent of satellite dish receivers, audiovisual media have penetrated almost every house in Morocco. [more]

4. Labor Union
In the labor sector, conflicts and drawn-out strikes resulting in "lose-lose" outcomes are the dominant norm of confrontation. This protracted situation is costing Moroccans billions of dirhams in opportunity cost, lost investments, and jobs. SFCG-Morocco brought together the government, private sector, and main labor unions around a joint project to institutionalize in Morocco a culture of collaborative problem solving. The project aimed at creating a group of Moroccan mediators and trainers in dispute resolution and included capacity-building events, exchange visits abroad, and other activities. [more]
