Search for Common Ground, the Moroccan Ministry of Justice and the British Embassy in Rabat published a pedagogical tool on mediation called “the Mediation Guide” on November 30, 2007.
The Mediation Guide was published as a component of a four-year project that promotes the institutionalization of mediation in Morocco. This project is supported by the Moroccan Ministry of Justice, the British Embassy in Rabat and is being implemented by Search for Common Ground.
Several years after mediation was pioneered in Morocco, this form of dispute resolution has become increasingly recognized as viable alternative process through which conflicts can be resolved. The value of mediation has been affirmed through legislation (text of law 05.08 on arbitration and conventional mediation) passed unanimously by the Moroccan parliament on July 24, 2007. The widespread use of mediation has also been greatly advanced through professional trainings that resulted in capacity building of mediators throughout Morocco.
The newly released pedagogical tool contains a wealth of information for those people already acquainted with this form of resolution. It also serves as an excellent overview for those who are new to the use of mediation: what mediation is, advantages of its use, the types of conflicts it aims to solve, the role of the mediator, required competencies in order to practise mediation, the cost of mediation and more. The booklet briefly presents each step of the mediation process in effort to help guide the parties in conflict to better understand the mediation process.
The mediation guide is available at the office of Search for Common Ground in Rabat on a first come, first serve basis.
