Partnership with Palestinian Media Organizations

Maharat
SFCG has partnered with the Palestinian NGO Maharat in producing talk shows with live audience participation that are being aired on local television stations. They focus on issues relevant to Palestinian daily life, including religion, health, education, policing, politics, economy, etc., and in doing so, engage public participation and stimulate public discourse on these issues.

This is the first phase of a long-term multi-phase process, that includes training and capacity building for Palestinian youth who are entering the media profession. Three episodes have been produced and broadcast on Ma'an TV stations throughout the West Bank and Gaza and on the Palestinian PBC Satellite TV, with audience participation from throughout the West Bank.

Ma'an Network
Over the past three years, we have developed a solid partnership with the Ma'an Network of independent Palestinian TV stations, covering the West Bank and Gaza. The strengthening of independent media is crucial for stimulating open debate and creating space for alternate voices in today's political environment. Specific programs include production of a series of 26 roundtable political programs on non-violent alternatives to conflict; production and broadcasting of a 15-part series on Reframing Incitement. In the fall of 2005, we produced and broadcast an intended-outcome TV drama that addresses issues related to Palestinian daily life and provides creative tools for resolving these issues. Additionally, we provide training and equipment upgrades to Ma'an's network of stations and support the production of a bi-weekly TV news magazine series broadcasted in the West Bank and Gaza. We work with al-Quds Educational TV and the Ma'an Network to provide live television coverage of the Palestinian Legislative Council debates and production of a weekly analysis program.
