Description: This award covers the costs of an 11-month program leading to a Master’s degree in Peace Studies. The highly competitive program accepts up to 20 students per year, most of whom are from outside the United States. Students may choose one of four concentrations: International peace and world order; cultural, philosophical and religious dimensions of peace and justice; conflict resolution and dispute settlement; or social change for peace, development, and human rights.
Award: The award provides funds for both tuition and living expenses for the program period.
Eligibility: Applicants must have a four-year college degree with an excellent academic record and a demonstrated commitment to working for peace and justice.
Deadline: January 5.

Description: The Foundation supports efforts of Israeli and Palestinian NGOs to build and strengthen democratic political institutions; promote civil and human rights; create an atmosphere of tolerance and pluralism; and provide greater social and economic opportunities for marginalized populations.
It will consider joint projects between Israeli and Palestinian NGOs or between them and other regional or international groups if such efforts are (1) developed jointly and structured to ensure equal participation in all aspects of the decision-making and implementation, and (2) have goals and plans which enhance the capacity of the Israeli or Palestinian NGO partners to carry out their missions.
Award: Varies - recent grant amounts range between US$35,000-$100,000.

Description: This program provides financial support for research to social scientists based in Arab countries and Turkey. The program is multi-disciplinary and invites applications from the various branches of the social sciences to include politics, sociology, anthropology, public policy, gender studies, development, international relations, and others. It is sponsored by the Middle East regional office of the Ford Foundation based in Cairo, Egypt.
Award: Usually within the range of US$8,000-14,000.
Eligibility: The program is open to residents of Arab countries and Turkey and to expatriate scholars who have been residing in an Arab country or Turkey and have been affiliated with a university or other research institution there for the past five years.
Deadline: There are two rounds of the competition each year. Proposals are due by December 15 and June 15. Contact the MERC office for proposal requirements.

Description: This scholarship enables three students – one Canadian, one Jewish Israeli and one Arab (from Israel or another Middle East country) – to study for a one-year period at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, at the Truman Institute for the Advancement of Peace. Rabin Scholars are enrolled in a specially designed Visiting Graduate Program and are required to be in residence in Jerusalem for the duration of the program.
Award: The award covers full tuition for the academic year, dormitory fees, medical coverage and, where applicable, Hebrew language Ulpan and airfare. The value of the award is US$7,500.
Eligibility: Candidacy for the program is open to students with a minimum of a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Deadline: February 15.
