Kilna Bil Hayy (All of Us in the Neighborhood)
About SFCG Lebanon's Dramatic Children's Television Series
The television series Kilna Bil Hayy ("All of Us in the Neighborhood"), which has run for two seasons and 26 episodes, focuses on accepting differences and celebrating commonalities.
The series tells the stories of a diverse group of six children -- an Armenian, a Christian, a Druze, a Palestinian, a Shia, and a Sunni -- and how they learn to live together despite the discord and segregation that have left their mark on the country. Progressively, their families learn to accept their differences and celebrate their commonalities. The first season aired from May to August 2009 and the second season aired from January to April 2011, both on the premier Lebanese Broadcasting Company (LBC) TV channel.
"My dad told me I should live this lesson correctly in real life and that no one other than us children can deliver this message to Lebanon."
- Kevin Kehdy (13) - actor Season 2
BackgroundThe first season of Kilna Bil Hayy was produced with funding from the Danish Rockwool Foundation while the second season of Kilna Bil Hayy was produced with funding from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
To complement the national television broadcast, Search for Common Ground collaborated with schools to deepen engagement with the program's themes:
-
Curricular resources were distributed to schools throughout the country as part of an on-going “listening and problem-solving” initiative targeting 8-14 year olds in schools across Lebanon
-
In-school activity kits, were designed and distributed that encourage youth to reflect on and practice the themes of each episode
