Comic Production
Common Ground Indonesia works with a creative team from Rumah Warna consists of 7 people who are responsible for the story, pencilling, inking, colouring and layout.
The Production of each edition of Gebora is divided into three stages:
- story
- visualisation (storyboard, pencilling and inking and colouring)
- layout
At each stage revisions are carried out by our experts and the Common Ground Indonesia team.
Production Of New Edition After Pilot
Pilot versions were produced of editions 1 - 3 of Gebora. Once they were tested to ensure that the comics were right for the audiences and conveyed the messages as planned, the final revised editions were published.
The first 3 editions are entitled:
- Si Gagap (the Stutterer)
- Prasangka Membawa Sengsara (Prejudice Hurts)
- Tantangan (Challenge)
Programme Implementation
Common Ground Indonesia works with local partners to implement the Comic Book Programme in the field.
Assessment and Selection of Local Partners in West Kalimantan and Madura
Over a period of six months a comprehensive assessment was carried out of potential local partners including over four institutions and organisations in Madura and five NGOs in West Kalimantan. The final selection was the following: two local partners in Madura, the Sampang branch of Ikatan Pemuda Nahdatul Ulama (IPNU, the youth wing of the largest Muslim organization in Indonesia), and Pusat Pengembangan Masyarakat Pondok Pesantren Annuqoyah (Community Developing Center at Annuqoyah Islamic boarding school), and two local partners in West Kalimantan, YKKSS and PBH-HAM, were chosen to carry out activities with children in each region.
Workshop with Local Partners
Capacity building workshops weres held for a number of institutions (including potential partners) where participants were encouraged to use methods such as role-play, story-telling and drawing to educate. As a result of this, detailed plans were drawn up for value-added activities including:
- Education and training for teachers and educators in Kalimantan and Madura
- 6 month Intensive programme for comic book for school teenagers and others
- Promotional materials, including posters, stickers, pins, were placed inside the comic books
