A scene from Tim Bui

SFCG produces media with positive messages with the goal of influencing mass attitudes and behaviors. The basic premise is that well-crafted, entertaining programming can have a profound impact on how people think about themselves, their neighbors, and their society. SFCG regularly collaborates with and trains grassroots stakeholders - often those who are poor or otherwise disempowered - in order to enable them to make betteruse of the media to have their voices heard. In the field of media, SFCG has also conducted trainings for regional media professionals, particularly surrounding coverage of Muslim-Western relations. Our work in Radio, Television & Film, and Comics are extensive.

I. Radio

SFCG's radio work is multi-faceted, and includes dramas, as well as interactive talk shows that engage local experts as well as listeners, and public service announcements that help raise awareness about and reinforce core messages of SFCG's programs. SFCG partners with both community and commercial radio stations.

Highlights of our radio work include:

  • Menteng Pangkalan, a radio soap opera about tolerance and conflict transformation in Jakarta's Menteng neighborhood.

  • The Youth Radio for Peacebuilding Project, which enhanced peacebuilding and social reconstruction in post-conflict and post-tsunami Aceh by establishing a platform for youth across the province to explore issues of common concern in a constructive, solutions-oriented manner.

  • Mencari Keadilan ("Looking for Justice"), a 30-episode radio drama series, complemented our work with the Supreme Court and addressed issues including domestic violence, land law, and family law.

  • Udin Bui, a radio drama, told the story of a former inmate and the challenges he faced as he struggled to reintegrate into society after leaving prison.
