2009 Final Evaluation Report: Aceh Youth Radio Project

From April 2008 until February 2009, Search for Common Ground Indonesia implemented a pilot project entitled Aceh Youth Radio for Peacebuilding. With support from DFID and the World Bank, the project had the overarching goal of transforming the way Aceh youth handle conflicts from adversarial approaches towards cooperative solutions. In light of this goal, the project was comprised of a pre-produced radio program, talk shows, organized youth gatherings, and focus group discussions. To evaluate the impact of these activities toward the objectives and goal, data was collected through listenership surveys, direct observation, key informant and participant interviews, focus group discussions, and content analysis. Using these tools, four levels of transformation examined; personal, relational, structural, and cultural. The evaluation highlighted the effectiveness of trainings in providing expertise in radio broadcasting to participants that they have subsequently used to gain other employment. Furthermore, the evaluation emphasized that listeners generally learned to analyze conflict in a constructive and meaningful way.
