Partners in Humanity

For constructive and vibrant Muslim-Western relations

The Partners in Humanity programme envisions a world where the environment of fear, suspicion and misunderstanding that affects Muslim-Western relations is replaced by constructive interactions and vibrant relationships. Partners in Humanity works to positively affect how people in the West and Muslim communities think and feel about the conflict in their lives, and acts as a facilitator for dialogue and cooperative action.

Media Outreach Training
Media Outreach Training To improve Muslim-Western understanding by helping civil society use the media as a tool for peace-building on the local, regional and global levels, media outreach workshops train dialogue and reconciliation activists to reach out to media, breaking down stereotypes by demonstrating that goodwill and honest efforts exist around the world despite the tension and misunderstanding that plague Muslim-Western relations. In 2006, workshops were hosted in the Middle East (Beirut) and Southeast Asia (Jakarta) for participants from 8 countries. [more]

Reality Television Show
CGP logo SFCG's media production division Common Ground Productions (CGP) is developing, together with partners in the Arab world and in the United States, a television program to be broadcast in both the United States and in the Middle East. This program will depict Middle Easterners and Americans walking a mile in each other's shoes, taking Muslim-Western dialogue out of the conference rooms of elites and into the living rooms of average citizens. Countering Religiously Motivated Violence and Islamophobia
Mosque Bringing together Muslim thought leaders from the Middle East and the West, this project challenges community leaders to think differently about responding to and addressing religiously motivated violence and Islamophobia. Through an interactive workshop, participants will develop a plan to transfer this mindshare to their Muslim constituents while reaching out to non-Muslims around the world.

Partnership with Soliya
Soliya logo In partnership with Soliya, SFCG advanced the Soliya Connect Program, convening student leaders from the United States and the Arab World in dialogue using advanced Internet web conferencing and media production tools. Terminology in Muslim-Western Dialogue
Terminology Guide Some of the language used to describe and discuss Muslim-Western relations is consistently misused, misunderstood or taken out of context, with important consequences for those working in the media or other forums for Muslim-Western dialogue. This often-misleading use of terminology tends to fan the flames of extremism and mistrust on all sides, rather than open the doors for constructive opportunities and increased understanding. This English-language guide to "Terminology in Muslim-Western Relations" provides additional explanation and highlights alternatives to the most frequently misused terms.
