Media Training
Journalists attend a great many conferences that achieve little beyond being an ineffectual and often boring talking shop. I am happy to say that this one was very different. Partners in Humanity hosts two types of complementary media training workshops:
-
Common Ground Media Outreach training for civil society peace-builders who wish to get their stories into mainstream media
- Common Ground Media training for journalists and reporters who cover conflict as part of their day-to-day roles
The aim of these interactive workshops is to increase the presence of constructive voices in mass media, particularly on issues relating to Muslim-Western relations by encouraging media professionals to reflect on the impact of their stories on the larger conflicts they report on, and building relationships between civil society and media so that the voices of individuals and groups working actively for peace are heard widely and clearly.
Having participated in the workshop held in Nepal, there are some substantive changes that have become part of my professional career. First of all, I never thought that a journalist could deal positively with ‘conflict issues’. This was the workshop that showed me how a journalist could adopt a conflict resolving approach instead of putting fuel on fire. – Tarik Zia, Pakistan

The Media Outreach Guide for Peace-Builders was designed to accompany and complement our training workshops and can be used as a resource for all peace-builders who are trying to increase their breadth and scope through the media. The guide is available in English, Arabic, and Indonesian.
The Kit for Common Ground Media Training is a companion guide designed to assist individuals conducting or organizing training for media professionals.
