Since 2001, SFCG has employed a field-based team in Guinea, which has developed strategic partnerships with representatives from the Ministries of Information and Communication, Radio Rural Guinée (RRG) radio stations, and civil society groups. SFCG in Guinea launched a radio studio, Talking Drum Studio (TDS), in Conakry in late 2005, modeled after SFCG’s Talking Drum Studios in Cote d’Ivoire, Liberia, and Sierra Leone.

With the overall goal of building local capacities for peace, the program’s approach focuses on diversifying the media landscape, supporting existing democratic processes, and strengthening the capacity of targeted stakeholders to contribute to informed dialogue that promotes social cohesion and awareness. SFCG’s unique two-pronged approach to peace building couples work in the media sector with on-the-ground community outreach through local capacity building and networking.

Talking Drum Studio
In recognition of the key role radio can play in managing and mitigating conflict, and informed from its extensive experience in the region, SFCG seeks to develop the capacity of local media organizations to contribute peace-building efforts through professional and reliable programming in cooperation with the Ministry of Information and local and international NGO partners.  SFCG’s Talking Drum Studio in Conakry provides this support through a coordinated effort utilizing journalism training, technical support and the production of quality radio programming.
