What We Do

SFCG Children & Youth Programs

Search for Common Ground Children and Youth has 26 programs in 14 countries. The programs focus on economic empowerment, leadership training, media literacy and creation, and much more. See the map below to learn more about individual projects.

Sierra Leone

Radio programming, created by the Talking Drum Studio, seeks to inform youth and to provide them with a platform for self-expression. Two very successful programs include Sisi Aminata and Golden Kids News.

Liberia

Radio programming, created by the Talking Drum Studio, seeks to inform youth and provide them with a platform for self-expression. Two very successful programs include Sisi Lorpu and Golden Kids News.

DRC

The Sisi Watoto radio program trains young journalists to conduct interviews and raise awareness about relevant community issues, and broadcasts their programming throughout the DRC Also projects such as participatory theater provide a way to creatively address conflict within communities.

Angola

The Big Sister program matches young girls with older women mentors who offer support and guidance. Additionally, tools such as radio programs offer youth a platform for self-expression, and workshops provide training on skills such as conflict resolution.

Burundi

The Youth Parliaments program raises awareness about governance issues and fosters democratic values among youth. Also radio programs provide platforms for young people to express themselves, while participatory theater projects present constructive ways to problem solve.

Rwanda

The Urungano radio program trains young journalists to conduct interviews and raise awareness about relevant community issues. Additional youth-based radio programs also provide a platform for self-expression and a vehicle for disseminating pertinent community information.

Guinea

The Youth and Non-Violence project trains youth leaders about rights and responsibilities and how to empower youth to be positive agents of social change in their communities. Complimenting the project, SFCG youth radio programs provide young people with a platform for self-expression.

Cote d’Ivoire

The Youth in Action program fosters youth engagement through radio programming and conflict resolution training. Also the radio/TV program, The Team, provides an illustration of problem solving scenarios through the experiences of a fictional soccer team.

Macedonia

Operating for over twelve years, the Mozaik program provides quality, multi-cultural, bilingual education for children ages 3-5 as a way to develop the children’s mother tongue and native culture while learning to respect other languages and cultures.

Morocco

Community mediation centers train youth how to be peer-mediators and provide a space for them to be constructively involved in the process. Also a de-radicalization program partnership works with at-risk youth in the Maghreb Prison through dialogue and capacity-building.

Indonesia

Youth Radio for Peacebuilding in Aceh provides a platform for youth to explore issues in constructive, solutions-oriented ways. The pesantrens project promotes religious tolerance through youth-led comic book production and debate competitions.

Nepal

Radio programs and forums are designed to ensure that the youth voice is being heard in the creation of the new Nepalese government. Also community-based programs such as the civic engagement program provide ways for youth to act as agents for positive social change.

Kosovo
