The Organization
Search for Common
Ground (SFCG) is an international non-governmental organization that promotes
peaceful resolution of conflict. Our mission is to transform the way in which
individuals, organizations and governments deal with conflict; away from
adversarial approaches and toward cooperative solutions. Established in 1982,
SFCG seeks to help conflicting parties understand their differences and act on
their commonalities.
With approximately
400 staff worldwide, SFCG implements projects from 28 offices in 19 countries.

International Development Team
SFCG’s International Development Team (IDT)
is responsible for all aspects of fundraising with inter-governmental agencies,
corporations, foundations and individuals. It also provides program support to our
country programs in Indonesia, Macedonia/Kosovo, Morocco, Nepal and Ukraine,
new program development, and policy/advocacy.
Summary of the position
These internship positions are located at
the Washington DC headquarters of SFCG. The IDT interns provide research,
administrative and logistical support to IDT in the Team’s overall fundraising,
development and policy activities. The interns will provide support to IDT’s
Offices of:

The VP for International Development;
and/or,
·
Strategic Philanthropy
The interns report to either the
International Development Officer or Strategic Philanthropy Director, depending
on assignment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with
grant and proposal development, particularly for USAID, State Department,
corporation and foundation applications;
- Desktop
research related to fundraising (governments, corporations, foundations
and individuals);
- Identify and
research opportunities for new program development and partnerships;
- Assist the International
Development Team members with their work;
- Attend
relevant public meetings in Washington and take notes when requested;
- Assist with
website maintenance;
- Update
computerized database of donors and prospects; and,
- General
administrative tasks as needed.
As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive,
the position-holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly
in line with the above key duties.
Minimum qualifications
- Current BA or
MA student of International Relations, Conflict Studies, Development, or a
related area;
- Written and
spoken fluency in English; and,
- Basic computer
skills (Microsoft Office, Internet Search Engines).
The ideal candidate will further exhibit
- A
self-starting, enthusiastic and flexible approach to the organization and
the position;
- Demonstrable
interest in conflict resolution;
- Good writing,
editing and communication skills;
- NGO,
fundraising and/or international experience and/or interest;
- Excellent
attention to detail;
- Ability to
handle multiple tasks and tight deadlines; and,
- Graphic design
a plus.

Please note this year-long internship
position is not paid, though credit hours can be arranged for. We are looking
for interns who can commit between 30 – 40 hours a week.
